Cloisters gives evidence to Disability Select Committee follow up

Declan O’Dempsey and Catherine Casserley have given evidence to the House of Lords Select Committee follow up session to their Report on Disability and the Equality Act 2010.

The Committee sought the views of Catherine Casserley as former Special Adviser to the Equality and Disability Committee on how much progress had been made in respect of eliminating discrimination against disabled persons in relation to transport, access to justice and the rights upheld by the Public Sector Equality Duty. Declan O’Dempsey’s evidence on behalf of the Discrimination Law Association concerned the failure of government to introduce Quantified One-way Costs Shifting (QOCS) for disability discrimination cases brought in the County Court, the public sector equality duty and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Declan also submitted written evidence for the DLA on these questions and on whether provisions relating to design and licencing requirements on taxis (section 163 EA 2010) should be commenced. Final evidence was submitted on 8 July and the Committee’s follow up Report is expected in the Autumn.
