“Come Out for Human Rights” - 17 May

Today, 17th May 2017, is International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, commemorating the 1990 decision of the World Health Organisation to remove homosexuality from the list of mental disorders. Every year, policy makers, opinion leaders, the media and the general public are challenged to address the urgent need to combat violence and discrimination against LGBTI persons and to build inclusive societies, enriched through their diversity.

Cloisters strongly supports the Recommendations adopted by the Committee of Ministers (COM) of the Council of Europe on 31 March 2010 concerning sexual orientation and gender identity: CM/Rec(2010)5 and the Resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly made on 22 April 2015 about discrimination against trans people in Europe: Resolution 2048 (2015). These Recommendations and Resolution have been directed to all the governments of the 47 member states of the COM. Although they are non-binding, they are important principles that will set standards for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender rights throughout Europe.

Cloisters is delighted to promote International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia and in so-doing is proud to “COME OUT FOR HUMAN RIGHTS” #IDAHOT #IDAHOTB.
