Barristers at Cloisters driving workplace AI regulation
Cloisters’ Robin Allen KC and Dee Masters have worked closely with the TUC and Cambridge University Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy over the past year to devise a ground-breaking Bill for regulating AI in the workplace.
This is the first time lawyers have translated ethical concerns concerning AI into real rules for the professional work environment. Its introduction will set the agenda for regulation in this area going forward.
The TUC’s AI (Regulation and Employment Rights) Bill sets out new legal rights and obligations for employers and employees ranging from the requirement to conduct workplace AI risk assessments, to the right to a human review of high-risk decisions involving AI tools, to obligations to consult with unions and employees before these tools are introduced.
Robin and Dee have been assisted throughout by Grace Corby and Jon Cook, fellow barristers at Cloisters.
The full text of the Bill is available on the TUC’s website here. Further information on the Bill’s launch can be found in the TUC’s official press release here.
